Design

Our design expresses the UNT that students want — friendly, challenging and full of opportunity. At the same time, we want to reflect the personality of those we serve, so we include an element of the unexpected in our designs that honors the uniqueness of every individual.

  • For a communication to appear friendly, hierarchy of message is paramount in layout. Simple use of scale of type will help deliver your message clearly and provide the reader what they need to know. To use scale of type:
    • Assign levels of importance to your key ideas and then order your messages accordingly with a corresponding type size.
  • Be clear about the purpose of the communication. For tips on doing this, review the narrative section.
  • For the message hierarchy to be clear, you must have a balanced use of negative space — the design space where nothing occurs. Negative space gives your reader a visual break or a clear point of entry that supports your hierarchy.
